The Role of the Christian Believer
Man was created to live in a
state of harmony and bliss with His creator and creation, but that
fellowship was broken when man sinned in the Garden of Eden. Man
became separated from God and therefore it became necessary for someone
to bridge the gap between mankind and God. It was Jesus, the Son
of God, who made the supreme sacrifice by dying on the Cross to save
mankind. Thus, through His blood the relationship was again
restored and salvation was obtained for mankind and eternal life became
possible. Salvation is only the beginning of what God wants to do
for us. It can be defined a the total work of God in affecting a
right relationship between mankind and himself. Salvation cannot be
earned through good works, sincerity, baptism, Church membership or any
other human device. It is a gift of God. Anyone who believes
on His name can be saved. Romans 10:13 state that "for whosoever
shall call upon the name of the Lord can be saved". Faith and
belief in the crucified and resurrected Christ are essential for
salvation. The believer seeks to have a new relationship with
Christ. The believer is born again and changed by the renewal in
both the moral and spiritual nature of Jesus the Christ. The
internal transformation will be displayed by our outward behavior.
II Corinthians 5:17 states that "therefore, if any man be in Christ, he
is a new creation; old things are passed away; behold, all things are
new." The believer becomes a member of the family of God,
Galatians 3:26 and a partaker of the divine nature, I Peter 1:23.
